Holiday Happenings

On Sunday we took the dogs on a 40 minute car drive to the Christmas tree farm to cut down our tree.  We knew going in that bringing the dogs could be a good idea….or a horrible mistake.  Sven hasn’t been socialized much, and since moving here Archer’s socialization has been cut down drastically as well. In the beginning – let’s just say it was rough!  There was lots of high pitched barking, pulling, yanking, and generally being pretty darn bad.  It always takes us forever to find the perfect tree, so we were at the farm for several hours.  By the time we left the dogs were so much better!  We should definitely take them more places with us, after we got home they napped so hard!  I think it was really good for their mental health to have that outing.

We managed to find a beautiful tree.  It’s a fraser fir, so it’s nice and soft and it smells beautiful.  It’s not as big as some of our trees in the past – but it’s nicely proportioned and has no giant bald spots.  We also bought a wreath, a small oblong wreath (that looks really pretty on my Grandma’s hope chest!), and 75 feet of pine roping (that was actually a mistake – we thought we were buying 10 yards of roping but grabbed the 25 yard bundle.)

Sunday night we turned the Christmas tunes on, drank eggnog, lit a fire, and decorated the house!  The tree is lit and decorated with our ornaments (a mixture of balls and more personal ornaments from our various childhoods), there is pine roping over the mantle as well as on some of the trim in the family room, and in the entrance of the house.  The stockings were hung by the chimney with care…

It’s so beautiful I can hardly stand it.  I love this time of year!
